Repetition is definitely my favorite Principle of Design; I find it really comforting. I also love geometry because it makes sense to the mathematical side of my brain, and when you put the two together it's a recipe for something I'm going to love!
Cue the tiles.
I feel like every time I see a photograph of tiles I get excited. They're so clean, so neat, and in these cases - so sleek and grey-scale!
It makes me giddy that these cement tiles from Commune have not only a repeat pattern, but also repetition in the diamond-like shapes within the pattern.
It also excites me (way too much) that the tiles in this bathroom are rectangular - the pattern of dimensional boxes we see with our eyes is not the shape of the tile!
Is there anyone else in the world who is so excited about real-life optical illusions?
Of course a life full of nothing but geometry is bound to get boring and feel rather flat, so I wind up in a constant internal battle - loving order and geometry but also needing something a little bit soft and organic.
And I think that's also why my jewelry designs are created created the way that they are.
